Instructor Information: Krav Maga Cambridge
My name is Shaun White. I am licensed to instruct Krav Maga under the British Krav Maga Association (BKMA).
I am a former Royal Marines Commando Officer with 20 years operational experience reaching the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, Royal Marines. During my service it was my privilege to command Royal Marines on operations around the world, and it was my responsibility to ensure they were fully trained to meet the arduous professional, physical and mental demands of our highly specialised Commando role, and for combat operations.
Royal Marines training is renowned for being one of the toughest and longest military training regimes in the world. It’s effectiveness has been tested by Royal Marine Commando units on operations globally, where Marines have proven that, whatever their mission, they can rely on their training, professionalism and mental strength to get the job done.
I specialised as a Physical Training & Sports Officer because of my interest in training and physical fitness. As a Physical Training Officer, I was responsible for training Marines of all ranks to meet the arduous physical demands expected of our commando trained troops. In addition, as a PT Officer and PT Staff Instructor, I was also collectively responsible for ensuring that the very highest professional standards were maintained across our Physical Training Branch.
During my time in the Royal Marines, I acquired invaluable experience in training and developing individuals to meet the gruelling demands of Commando Service. Of the skills I instructed, these have particular relevance to Krav Maga: unarmed combat, Close Quarter Battle (CQB), weapons, tactics training and combat survival skills.
On leaving the Royal Marines I entered the security sector where I have worked in various roles at a senior level since 2005. During this time, I have worked in very high threat and austere environments including Afghanistan and Iraq, and other areas in the Middle East and Africa. As a direct result of my training and experiences, I have gained a fundamental understanding of risk in both a military and commercial context and how to identify and manage it effectively to achieve a positive, safe and secure outcome.
For me, this experience aligns perfectly well with Krav Maga training. A positive, safe and secure outcome for anyone caught up in an unprovoked violent attack is to be able defend yourself and your loved ones and walk away having neutralised the threat.
In addition to Krav Maga and unarmed combat training, I have represented the Royal Navy and the Royal Marines at Judo and I have trained in boxing for many years.
